Alt Attribute & SEO Optimization

SEO Optimization images has become more and more essential in SEO (Seo optimization) for websites. The ALT attribute is a critical step that is often overlooked. This is often a lost opportunity for better rankings.

In Google's webmaster guidelines, they advise the use of alternative text for the images in your site:

Images:. Use the alt attribute to provide descriptive text. In addition, we recommend utilizing a human-readable caption and descriptive text round the image.

Why would they ask us to achieve that? The answer is easy, really; search engines like google have a similar problem as blind users. They cannot begin to see the images.

Many webmasters and inexperienced or unethical SEOs abuse the use of this attribute, attempting to stuff it with keywords, looking to achieve a particular keyword density, which is not as relevant for rankings now since it was previously.

On the contrary, high keyword density can, on some search engines like google, trigger spam filters, which may create a penalty for your site's ranking. Even without this type of penalty, your site's rankings will not take advantage of this tactic.
This process also puts persons who use screen readers at a greater disadvantage. Screen readers are software-based tools that actually read aloud the contents of what's displayed on the screen. In browsing the web, the alt features of images are read aloud too.

Imagine listening to a paragraph of text that is followed by repetitions of numerous keywords. The page will be not even close to accessible, and, to put it bluntly, will be found quite annoying.
What is an Alt attribute?

An ALT attribute should not be used as a description or perhaps a label to have an image, though lots of people utilize it for the reason that fashion. Although it may appear natural to assume that alternate text is a label or a description, it's not!

The words used within an image's alt attribute ought to be its text equivalent and convey the same information or serve exactly the same purpose the image would.

The thing would be to supply the same functional information that the visual user would see. The alt attribute text should be the "stand in" in the event that the image is not available. Ask yourself this: If you were to replace the image using the text, would most users receive the same basic information, and would it generate the same response?
Some examples:

Some SEO Optimization Tips

If a search button is a magnifying glass or binoculars its alt text should be 'search' or 'find' not 'magnifying glass' or 'binoculars'.

If the image is supposed to convey the literal items in the image, then a description is suitable.

If it is meant to convey data, then that data is what's appropriate.

If it's meant to convey using a function, then the function itself is what should be used.

Some Alt Attribute Guidelines:

Always add alt attributes to images. Alt is mandatory for accessibility as well as for valid XHTML.

For images that play only a decorative role within the page, make use of an empty alt (i.e. alt="") or perhaps a CSS background image to ensure that reading browsers do not bother users by uttering such things as "spacer image".

Keep in mind that it is the function from the image we are trying to convey. For instance; any button images shouldn't include the word "button" within the alt text. They should emphasize the action performed by the button.

Alt text ought to be based on context. The same image inside a different context may require drastically different alt text.

Try to flow alt text with the rest from the text because that's how it will be read with adaptive technologies like screen readers. Someone listening to your page should hardly be aware that a graphic image is there.
Please remember that using an alt attribute for every image is required to meet the minimum WAI requirements, that are used as the benchmark for accessibility laws in UK and also the rest of Europe. They are also necessary to meet "Section 508" accessibility requirements in the US.

It is useful to categorize non-text content into three levels:

Eye-Candy
Mood-Setting
Content and Function

I. Eye-Candy

Eye-Candy are stuff that serve no purpose other than to create a site visually appealing/attractive and (in many cases) satisfy the marketing departments. There is no content value (though there may be value to some sighted user).

Never alt-ify eye-candy unless there's something there which will boost the usability of the site for somebody using a non-visual user agent. Use a null alt attribute or background images in CSS for eye-candy.

II. Mood-Setting

This is actually the middle layer of graphics which may actually set the atmosphere or set happens so to speak. These graphics aren't direct content and could not be considered essential, but they're essential in that they help frame what is going on.

Attempt to alt-ify the second group as is sensible and is relevant. There may be times when doing this might be annoying or detrimental with other users. Then try to avoid it.

For example; Alt text that's just like adjacent text is unnecessary, and an irritant to screen reader users. I recommend alt="" or background CSS images in such cases. But sometimes, it's important to get this content inside for those users.

Most times it depends on context. Exactly the same image in a different context may need drastically different alt text. Obviously, content ought to always be fully available. The way you use this case is a judgment call.

III. Content and Function

This is when the look is the actual content. Always alt-ify content and functional images. Title and long description attributes may also be in order.
The main reason many authors can't figure out why their alt text isn't working is they don't know why the pictures are there. You have to figured out exactly what function a picture serves. Think about what it is concerning the image that's vital that you the page's intended audience.

Every graphic has a reason for being on that page: since it either enhances the theme/ mood/ atmosphere or it is critical to what the page is trying to describe. Understanding what the look is for makes alt text simpler to write. And practice writing them definitely helps.
A method to check the usefulness of alternative text would be to imagine reading the page on the phone to someone. An amount you say when encountering a specific image to make the page understandable to the listener?

Besides the alt attribute you've got a couple more tools at your disposal for images.
First, in level of descriptiveness title is in between alt and longdesc. It adds useful information and can add flavor. The title attribute is optionally rendered through the user agent. Remember they're invisible and not shown like a "tooltip" when focus is received through the keyboard. (A lot for device independence). So make use of the title attribute only for advisory information.
Second, the longdesc attribute points to the URL of a full description of an image. When the information contained in an image is important to the concept of the page (i.e. some important content would be lost if the image was removed), a longer description than the "alt" attribute can reasonably display ought to be used. It may offer rich, expressive documentation of a visual image.

It ought to be used when alt and title are insufficient to embody the visual qualities of an image. As Clark [1] states, "A longdesc is a long description of the image...The aim is by using any period of description essential to impart the details from the graphic.

It wouldn't be remiss to hope that the long description conjures an image - the image - in the mind's eye, an analogy that is true even for the totally blind."

Even though alt attribute is mandatory for web accessibility and for valid (X)HTML, not every images need alternative text, long descriptions, or titles.

In many cases, you're best just choosing your gut instinct -- if it's not essential to incorporate it, and when you don't possess a strong urge to do it, don't include that longdesc.

However, if it's essential for the whole page to operate, then you have to add the alt text (or title or longdesc).

What's necessary and what's not depends a lot about the function of the image and it is context on the page.

Exactly the same image may need alt text (or title or longdesc) in one spot, but not in another. If the image provides absolutely no content or functional information alt="" or background CSS images might be appropriate to use. But if the image provides content or adds functional information an alt would be required and perhaps a long description will be so as. In many cases this kind of thing is really a judgement call.

Image Seo optimization Tips

Listed here are key steps in optimizing images:

Choose a logical file name that reinforces the keywords. You can use hyphens within the file name to isolate the keyword, but avoid to exceeding two hyphens. Stay away from underscores like a word separator, like for example "brilliant-diamonds.jpg";

Label the file extension. For instance, if the image search engine sees a ".jpg" (JPEG) file extension, it's likely to assume that the file is really a photo, and when it sees a ".gif" (GIF) file extension, it's likely to assume that it is a graphic;

Make sure that the written text nearby the image that is relevant to that image.
Again, don't lose a great opportunity to help your website together with your images searching engines. Begin using these steps to rank better on all the engines and drive increased traffic to your site TODAY.

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak said in an interview this week that he would consider returning to an active role at the company he helped start if asked.

During an interview in England this week, Wozniak said, "I'd consider it, yeah," when asked whether he would play a more active role if asked, Reuters reports.

Wozniak, Steve Jobs and Ronald Wayne founded Apple Computer in 1976. Wozniak left his full-time role with the company in 1987, but remains an employee and shareholder of Apple.

Since leaving Apple, Wozniak has been involved in a wide range of entrepreneurial and philanthropic endeavors. He currently serves as Chief Scientist for storage company Fusion-io.

Meanwhile, Jobs is currently taking an indefinite leave of absence to focus on his health, though he remains CEO of Apple and continues to be involved in strategic decisions.

Wozniak, who has widely been acknowledged as the technical genius behind Apple's early success, believes that he has a lot to offer the company he helped start, which went on to become the world's second-largest company in terms of market value.

"There's just an awful lot I know about Apple products and competing products that has some relevance, some meaning. They're my own feelings, though," Wozniak said during the interview.

When asked his opinion on Apple today, Wozniak praised the company for its track record with recent products. "Unbelievable," he said, "The products, one after another, quality and hits."

Even so, Wozniak admitted that he'd prefer Apple's devices to be more open, so he can "get in there and add [his] own touches." Last December, Wozniak revealed that he had purchased a DIY kit for the iPhone 4 and "modded" the device into the as-yet-unreleased white version.

"My thinking is that Apple could be more open and not lose sales," said Wozniak, while adding, "I'm sure they're making the right decisions for the right reasons for Apple."

Wozniak has been committed to openness since the beginning. In December, Wozniak told reporters that he didn't design the original Apple I to make a lot of money and had given the designs away for free after his former employer HP showed no interest in the computer.

As rumors of a later-than-usual iPhone launch for 2011 persist, a new report reveals that the notoriously secretive Apple is being even more careful than usual when dealing with overseas suppliers.

"Apple is keeping its iPhone 5 cards extra close to the vest on this launch to avoid a falloff in iPhone 4 demand ahead of a refresh, especially given the February launch of the CDMA iPhone 4 with Verizon," Analyst Brian White with Ticonderoga Securities said in a note to investors on Friday. He believes that the iPhone 5 could still launch in June or July, as previous models have.

White noted that various rumors have pointed toward a launch later than June this year for the fifth-generation iPhone. One report from March alleged that Apple has not even begun ordering components for the anticipated "iPhone 5," and the device is slated to arrive in the company's 2012 fiscal year, which begins in late September.

And a third report alleged that Apple is working on a major revamp of iOS, its mobile operating system, for version 5.0. New features like cloud-based storage of music, photos and video are rumored to arrive in the update this fall, likely alongside new iPhone hardware.

But despite all of those reports, White isn't yet convinced that the iPhone 5 will be introduced later than its typical June or July timeframe.

"Although we do not have a smoking gun that definitively rules out a delayed autumn unveiling or one that supports a launch this summer, there is a pattern of activity in motion with the supply chain that makes us question a delayed launch," he said.

White also cited sources who indicated that iPad sales could reach up to 40 million units in calendar year 2011. And supply chain sources also indicated that disruption from the earthquake and tsunami disaster in Japan will actually end up benefitting Apple, as suppliers will "rush to support Apple at the expense of competitors."

The analyst already revealed earlier this week that Apple has been offering upfront cash payments to component suppliers in order to secure components in the wake of the disaster in Japan. Apple has apparently also been using a "three cover guarantee," referring to capacity, stock and price, to block out competitors and prevent them from building ample supply of devices.

Kevin’s post and David Glenn’s story are deeply troubling in so many aspects that it’s hard to pick out which ones are the worst. The popularity of the business major, the low work-demands made of students, the quirky assignments and exams . . . they add up to, well, what we get as documented in Academically Adrift.  That is, low learning outcomes, little coordination between pedagogy and outcomes, and meager effort on the part of students.

But something else in the story bears highlighting, and it might go to the heart of the problems of the business major.  In their analysis of CLA scores for undergraduates, Arum and Rooksa found that business majors score the lowest on writing-and-reasoning skills improvement while in the first two years of college.

A big problem, indeed, when set alongside another statement made by Glenn at the end of the piece: “According to national surveys, [employers] want to hire 22-year-olds who can write coherently, think creatively, and analyze quantitative data.” Note what comes first: the writing. We hear it in just about every survey I’ve seen which asks employers about problems or needs in the workplace.  They always emphasize communication skills, particularly writing skills. In sum, businesses need competent writers who draft clear prose. Not PowerPoint slides, spread sheets, or Web sites alone, but prose for reports, correspondence, agreements, white papers, etc. Not collaborative composition only, but solitary composition, too.

That’s the reality, but in Glenn’s story, I found only one case in which the examination of writing quality was emphasized, the University of Viriginia’s business school.

Why doesn’t it come up all the time?

Obviously, because writing is a labor-intensive activity for student and for professor.  Assign each student a 15-page white paper on some subject or another and the workload for everyone rises considerably. For the student, it means paying attention to punctuation, diction, transitions, and structure, not to mention pursuing one line of thought through 3,000 words. For the professor, it means grading punctuation, diction, transitions, and structure, not to mention one line of thought through 3,000 words.

It is precisely the kind of training that business majors need and employers prefer, but it looks just too darn onerous for students and for teachers. Even if students end up on the job writing more PowerPoints than long papers, the training in prose composition in school pays off.

We should guard against an assumption cited in the article that what people will do in the workplace should be replicated in the classroom.  This is to align training and the thing you will eventually do too closely.  Students should write papers that are longer than the things they will have to write in the workplace.  They should spend more time alone than they will in the workplace.  Training should always require practices that exceed the tasks that need to be handled later on.

If business school leaders wish to improve learning outcomes and raise the workplace readiness of graduates, they have a simple option: require a year-long composition course at the beginning of the major. That course should focus on prose and should minimize collaborative work.

Roofing Companies Vancouver - 5 Questions to Think about

Roofing Vancouver - Faq's

1. Repair or Replace?

There's no opinion like an expert opinion. Most contractors will provide you with a free estimate. Get a summary of a few trusted contractors and phone them well in advance of when you want to obtain your roof fixed so you can compare costs and opinions.

2. Beauty versus Practicality?

Discuss this together with your spouse or partner. (The kids could care less...at least the young ones.) Truth is, nobody wants an ugly roof just like nobody wants to be viewed with bed hair. If you've got a great quality roof and you just need to do the repair, it's worth it to pay for the cost of the initial shingle instead of doing patchwork. A roof replacement doesn't happen very often (we hope!) and so make a decision that suits you and your loved ones well or it'll stand out just like a sore thumb everyday you decide to go home.

3. Must i replace the rooftop in order to sell the home for more?

Consider this very carefully prior to making a choice. With respect to the roofing material you choose, a new roof lasts anywhere from twenty, fifty, to one-hundred years! This means you have to check the year of the roof that's currently too deep first. Are you at year 18 of a 20-year warranted roof or year 30 of the 50-year warranted roof? Obviously, the standard is the reason why the roof keep going longer, but when you're not planning to stay in your current home for the rest of your lifetime, the larger expense might not be worth neglect the. Although a new roof can enhance the worth of your value, the increase may not be enough to cover your investment and that's bound to hurt your wallet.

4. Is it a good idea that i can repair the rooftop myself?

Sure it is. But before you do, consult a specialist first. You can perform it yourself, however, you shouldn't be considered a complete ‘lone ranger.' With respect to the extent of your repair, you might or might not change your mind. Either way, it will help to get a professional eye on the problem first and perhaps a free quote to help you do the math later and find out if it's truly worth your time, sweat, and cash to be mister or miss fix-it.

5. Just when was a good time to find the roof replaced?

Weather may cause delays from days to weeks. Most people plan ahead to have their roof replaced in the summer once they have a friend will be home during the day for any solid fourteen days. Once you have this period in your mind, create a call to a trusted contractor months in advance to get a quote. Some companies get booked up fast and chances are, they're probably the most reputable. Preparing in advance from the summer also provides you with time for you to ask around many compare costs...especially if you want to have the roof made by a specified date.

Tacoma Roofer: Help your house be Beautiful

Not many people understand the worth of a solid roof, your knowledgeable Tacoma Roofing company does. From first hand experience, they'll be able to let you know the reason why you require a strong, secure, and leak-free roof in your home.

Your local Tacoma Roofer is well aware how important a financial investment your property is for you, especially since it is a long term one. Your house may have been damaged slowly over the years and you have to take steps to minimize this damage. For a lot of people, keeping their house beautiful is another matter of pride. There are those too who'd like to turn their house right into a cost effective and efficient living place. Your roof is an integral part of your house and contributes to each of the aspects mentioned above. Because of this, you should employ the expertise of qualified a Tacoma Roofer.

Types of Roofs installed by a Tacoma Roofing contractor

Among the more common kinds of roofs are asphalt shingles, steel or metal sheeting, fiberglass, slate and terra cotta tiles.

Each kind of roof invites distinct problems, however they can be easily taken care of by a trusted Tacoma Roofing contractor. It's imperative that you nip roof problems within the bud before they become too costly or dangerous. You are able to schedule an appointment with the Tacoma Roofer to take a glance at your homes roof to determine if there are any issues or potential issues with it. If you will find, they may be in a position to tell you how to approach them.

A Tacoma Roofer Helps you to Build Strong Homes

The exteriors of any house, primarily the rooftop and gutters, face the onslaught of bitter and varying weather conditions, every single day. Painting, repairing, and cleaning gutters might be necessary. In some instances you might want to replace them completely. Usually, when your gutters show signs and symptoms of trouble, your roof must also be inspected for problems. Whatever issues there might be, a skilled Tacoma Roofer can examine them at length and suggest the remedy.

If your gutters often clog all too often, or there are leaks across the walls of your house, it might imply that there's debris piled up on the roof. Loose branches, piles of leaves, and other light objects which are swept on your roof throughout a storm can all contribute towards damaging your roof, which damages could be lasting. A knowledgeable Tacoma Roofer will tell you that birds, mice, along with other types of rodents often build nest in the debris that collects on the top. While these nests may look rather innocent, they are great at collecting moisture, be responsible for loose shingles, mold, and indoor leaks in your house. In addition, it may also cause vermin infestation. Following a storm, your Tacoma Roofing company will suggest that you inspect your roof for just about any signs of debris or damage.

Reverse Damages by using a Tacoma Roofing company

However top quality the roof might be, it will eventually wear out with time. There are shingles that are referred to as "25 year" or "30 year" shingles, but those numbers are only associated with warranty made by the manufacturers. They seldom require that long. Realistically speaking, "25 year" shingles will not last a lot more than fifteen to twenty years. In an area that is prone to storms, shingles or the entire roof may need to get replaced every ten years. With a Tacoma Roofing contractor, the cost will be less than what you think.

If there you lose any shingles, or there's some harm to them, a Tacoma Roofing company will be able to help you. Damaged shingles can lead to indoor leaks, as the substrate from the roof becomes exposed to the elements. Shingles that are loose or broken can slip off and pose a potential hazard to individuals standing below. Missing shingles create a gap that allows rain, wind, ice, and debris to build up under the adjoining shingles, which creates a "domino effect" that affects other shingles and they become loose or broken. A thorough investigation is going to be produced by your local Tacoma Roofing contractor, should you give them a call up with your suspicions of loose or missing shingles.

Your Tacoma Roofing company come in a position to tell you what the smartest choice is perfect for your roof. If your roof is not in a good shape, it's advised you have it replaced completely. The Tacoma Roofer can take you thru the various roofing options available to you which will suit your requirements as well as your budget.

What is Distinction between Commercial Roofing Companies From Residential Roofing Companies

If you are considering getting a roofing company to re roof your house or building then you can be wondering what the differences are between residential roofing companies and commercial roofing companies. To start with, the one huge difference is that often times a commercial roofing company might have signed an agreement with and become obligated to a roofing union in able to focus on union commercial jobs.

If this is the situation then their labor costs will prohibit them from focusing on non union residential jobs. Beyond that, if your commercial roofing company has not signed a contract with a union they may be outfitted just for commercial jobs and that means that their workers and equipment may not be consistent with smaller residential jobs.

Residential roofing contractors in general tend to run smaller companies and hence, tend to be more capable of bid competitively on residential jobs, which are usually smaller than comercial jobs. Actually, often times residential roofing contractors will run one man operations, where the contractor that you talk to may be the one which actually does the work about the building.

residential by jpignanello

Also, liability insurance for commercial roofing is more expensive along with a larger bond is required for a commercial roofing work which will make it not cost effective for any commercial roofer to do residential roofing jobs.

Still one more factor is the fact that commercial jobs can run on tighter time period for just about any quantity of reasons, requiring a commercial contractor to train on a larger crew or crews which again makes smaller jobs less profitable on their behalf.

Difference Between Commercial Roofing and Residential Roofing

Are you aware that the roof of the building has a huge impact on the entire structure itself? Damage caused to roofs due to natural or another disasters causes a considerable loss of property everywhere. The type of materials used to construct the roof that ought to be sturdy and long lasting, the way in which the roof has been installed and even its timely maintenance are extremely crucial. There are two kinds of roofs which are used on all the buildings that people see around us: commercial and residential. Although it might seem that commercial roofing is done only for businesses or offices and residential roofing is performed for apartments and houses, in reality the differences tend to be more complicated than that.

residential by jpignanello

Residential roofing is usually completed just by one hired contractor but commercial roofing typically takes a whole team to accomplish the task. This is because a commercial roof tends to be larger when it comes to sq ft than the usual residential roof.
Commercial roofs need to be made carefully keeping the character and reason for the building in mind. For example, when there is a restaurant in the building then external components like ventilation systems, smoke stacks and pipes will be required. Residential roofs usually do not have such components apart from a chimney or two at the most.
Commercial roofs is commonly flat in design to support further changes at a later period, whereas most residential roofs have peaks along with other architectural features like roof gardens.
Commercial roofing is much more expensive than residential roofing due to the special tools, materials and safety equipment that are needed onsite. Usually the patching or maintenance jobs are completed in segments unlike for a residential roof in which the repair or replacement work can be completed in a short time. This is another reason why the gear employed for residential roofs is often smaller and less costly too.
Commercial roof installations take a extended period to accomplish in comparison to residential roof installations and are usually constructed in large sections. During this phase however, it is important to ensure that there are no leakages, cracks or other visible deterioration signs as it can certainly cause considerable damage to the entire building.
It is important to install the right roof for any building based on its purpose. Ensure that you hire a construction company that uses top notch materials and it has the best equipment to do the job or neglect the risk turning out to be considered a huge loss later.

And also "proper" websites with your own domain name failed to achieve visibility on the list of proliferating sites in millions.

These wouldn't have mattered, except for one thing. It was Google that provided the bread and butter for that millions of small enterprises that could not afford expensive marketing campaigns. If the site was one of the top few sites the appeared before a searcher's eyes when that person looked for your product or service, you have hundreds and also thousands of visitors, a lot of whom even bought your products or services.

As more and more of your competitors adopted search engine optimization practices, things became difficult again. Your situation begun to slip in case your competitors did the SEO better. SEO battles became serious fights with every dirty trick being employed.

There were "black hat" SEO practitioners who showed one page to look engines and another to human visitors. As search engines like google weren't bothered with readability, you might fill the "search engine" page with pure gibberish, but gibberish written in a way that the engine dutifully indexed high.

A war of wits followed between unscrupulous SEO practitioners and search engines. Google changed its ranking algorithms regularly to work around practices that allowed low value content to look towards the top of its serp's. All things considered, Google's success leaned on providing value to searchers, not merchants. And SEO practitioners created new tricks.

'Counter-Terror' Policy Targets Uyghurs

2011-04-07
A new report says China uses the threat of terrorism to crack down on Uyghurs in Xinjiang.

AFP
Uyghur men and women chat outside a mosque in Urumqi, July 17, 2009.

China's anti-terrorism policy deliberately targets ethnic minority communities such as Uyghurs and Tibetans struggling for greater autonomy, according to a white paper by a rights group.

The policy equates terrorism with groups pushing for more self-governing rights, is too broad in scope, and shirks international human rights commitments, said the Hong Kong and New York-based Human Rights in China (HRIC).

The paper looked into human rights concerns within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), a regional intergovernmental organization which includes China and five other member states-Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan-with a total population of 1.5 billion people.

It said the SCO approach to counter-terrorism, modeled on China'sThree Evils doctrine, and highlighting principles of territorial integrity, noninterference in internal affairs, and social stability, contributes to supporting repressive regimes at the expense of human rights.

A failure to demand accountability from the SCO undermines the effectiveness and integrity of the international system in countering terrorism and advancing rule of law, peace, and security, HRIC said.

"China's approach to counter-terrorism is the Three Evils doctrine, and it links terrorism with separatism and extremism," HRIC director Sharon Hom said in an interview.

"This Three Evils approach is overbroad, highly politicized, and while not exclusively applied only to ethnic minority groups, it is regularly applied to Uyghurs and Tibetans in its practice."

Hom said other SCO member states follow China's lead by recognizing Xinjiang and Tibet as inalienable territories of China and repatriating its ethnic minorities who seek asylum within their borders.

"China has enormous clout in the SCO, and you can also see it in the ways in which the other SCO member states and the SCO will completely parrot China's line and China's policy on these two so-called autonomous regions."

Treatment of Uyghurs

The HRIC white paper said it found "serious issues" concerning China's treatment of Uyghurs, including the principle of non-refoulement and potential use of torture during interrogations.

Regulations specific to Xinjiang became part of China's domestic counter-terrorism legal framework in December 2009 when provincial-level lawmakers revised the region's Comprehensive Management of Social Order.

Through the revisions, Chinese authorities were ordered to specifically crack down on the three threats of "terrorism, separatism, and extremism" in the aftermath of the July 2009 ethnic violence in Urumqi which left hundreds dead, according to official media reports.

HRIC called the amendments "unique" to Xinjiang, adding that "such singular focus by the Chinese government ... suggests that the concept of terrorism has been applied in a biased fashion, with the Uyghur community the subject of intense scrutiny and suspicion."

It noted that while China does face real threats of terrorism, "the limited involvement of Uyghurs in terrorist acts cannot serve as justification of widespread repression throughout [Xinjiang] or the labeling of peaceful Uyghur activists under the rubric of the Three Evils."

Adherence to rules

But despite its reliance on the Three Evils doctrine, HRIC wrote, China continues to claim that it is acting to "firmly uphold and fulfill the resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly and the Security Council," according to a statement by the Chinese Ministry of Public Security (MPS).

Under U.N. rules, China pledged to oppose the "arbitrary widening" of the scope of fighting terrorism and identifying terrorism with any specific ethnic group or religion.

"The Three Evils doctrine undermines this principled approach and, in doing so, compromises human rights guaranteed under international law, and international counter-terrorism efforts as a whole," HRIC said.

HRIC recommended that Beijing narrow its "Three Evils"-based approach to national security and reformulate its definition of terrorism.

On June 24 last year, Chinese authorities announced they had broken up a "terrorist" ring of a Uyghur separatist group, the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM), after arresting more than ten of its members involved in an alleged major plot against China.

The announcement said that information leading to the arrest had been obtained through the investigation of 20 "individuals of Chinese citizenship" who had been deported to China on December 20, 2009-the exact date that Cambodia deported 20 Uyghurs seeking asylum following the July 5 ethnic unrest in Urumqi.

The statement also indicated that several of the alleged ETIM members had confessed to participating in a wide array of terrorist activities during interrogation.

Human Rights Watch said in February that the Cambodian government has a "dismal track record" of deporting refugees granted asylum status by the UNHCR, particularly those from neighboring countries such as China and Vietnam.

Ethnic tensions

Millions of Uyghurs-a distinct, Turkic minority who are predominantly Muslim-populate Central Asia and the Xinjiang region.

Ethnic tensions between Uyghurs and majority Han Chinese settlers have simmered for years, and erupted in riots in July 2009 that left some 200 people dead, according to the Chinese government's tally.

Uyghurs say they have long suffered ethnic discrimination, oppressive religious controls, and continued poverty and joblessness despite China's ambitious plans to develop its vast northwestern frontier.

Chinese authorities blame Uyghur separatists for a series of deadly attacks in recent years and accuse one group in particular of maintaining links to the al-Qaeda terrorist network.

Vancouver Roofing Problems

Roofing Vancouver

In Vancouver special care is required whenever getting a estimate for any house. A roofing contractor in Vancouver must know exactly what they are dealing with when getting your roof away. Unexpected costs really are a common situation within Vancouver and every proprietor should be prepared

Heritage- becoming one of the oldest places in the GVRD you can realize that there are some fairly old houses. With a steep message roof, most likely near 12/12 message which basically means Forty five diploma angle roof. The original roof was cedar shake sitting on strapping. I'm not sure if it had been laid back or the tradition, if people were trying to cut costs but when you have this particular roof you most likely got several coating on the roof. The initial continues to be upon and a pair of other layers sit down above the actual cedar tremble. I've come across home where five layers sitting on top of the house. Based on building code now days a Vancouver Roofing company should eliminate all layers if a new roof is to be placed above. A person folks tend to pay much more due to the steepness, the few layers associated with roofing, the plywood deck and the trouble. You are probably 2 ft out of your neighbors

Roofing Vancouver

Reduced Downward slope - Vancouver special homes run all through East Vancouver. The actual slight trouble with these houses when it comes to roof covering is that fewer and fewer roofing businesses out there perform tar as well as gravel. The choice you've is torch on or even steel. Asphalt tiles can't continue these houses. Your own message would be to reduced and asphalt most likely would not last ten years. Vancouver Roofing contractors that have been in the business associated with torch upon in excess of 10 years are most likely reliable. Ice and snow build up on these types of roofs trigger small swimming pools to build up on your roofing as well as cause major leaking, always keep the actual rain gutters and downpipes clear.

wheres the roof ? by bravewest

Reduced Slope or High Downward slope cedar tremble -- In Vancouver this really is typical on the Western aspect. There is not a lot to say about Cedar in Vancouver. There was a long period through the 60's, 70's as well as 80's when Vancouver Roofing businesses were not setting up cedar. Most Cedar roofs tend to be brand new construction. cedar is the one product that the majority of issues can be established prior to the work starts

Low Slope or even High Slope Asphalt roofing -- If you have asphalt roofing and it was not changed within the last ten years then you've a solid outdoor patio. Since the 1970's asphalt arrived to the marketplace. With brand new construction shiplap or even also known as tongue as well as dance was the only option of a strong outdoor patio. Shiplap techniques a lot in the winter and in summer therefore plyboard should be split lower by the roofer

Roof covering in Burnaby

Roofing within Burnaby might have it's challenges and also the easiest way to go through all of them would be to work from Northern to Southern beginning towards the top associated with Burnaby. Within Northern Burnaby the hills start to incline as well as decrease to some pretty strong angles. The large problems I find listed here are front yard steepness and access to the house, even though this may not seem like a issue for you it's a truly major problem for any roofing company who has to hand have your own old roof up a hill and hand carry your new roofing down the slope.

Hard, a slope region in this region stored creating contractors aside and as a result you've houses that were all constructed by separately employed construction businesses. There are several portions of Northern Burnaby that have small groups homes all constructed collectively however as far as which Central Burnaby has. Northern Burnaby offers more interesting constructed designs and roofs creating a ball park determine estimation in this area pretty difficult.

Roofing Burnaby

Central Burnaby is where large construction companies with a standard new way of creating the home had been pretty busy during the 70`s as well as earlier 80`s. With a shiplap deck being the only real option as well as asphalt tiles being the choice and placed on a home. These days shiplap is the roofing contractors adversary due to the fact the shingles of today are not designed to use shiplap. Trying to persuade main Burnaby they have to re-deck the roof along with plywood offers often already been overlooked and even for good cause.

The caliber of shiplap has elevated levels of this particular region with many of it that I have come across being in between 6 and Eight inches that is perfect. Other than that this particular part of Burnaby is pretty simple to roof in with entry not a problem all that frequently along with a obvious design in steep roofing that's easy to understand. A lot of Vancouver specials focused right here in order to along with torch on becoming the number one choice in the unique tar residue as well as gravel choice. Cedar rooftops tend to spread the east side of the area with many converting in order to asphalt

South Burnaby has a tendency to have much larger rooftops that are scattered along with asphalt and cedar shake. Cedar tremble rooftops in this region are generally from homes close to Two decades aged. This particular house tends to convert right into a asphalt roofing and most have alright access however, many do not and the roofs are not all that to high. A few asphalt rooftops lower right here actually have plyboard decks which is usually a big saving idea for any home owner

Roofing West Vancouver

West Vancouver is really a area of valley's as well as side rails, steep driveways and concealed roofs. This is often a roofers nightmare but you will find roofing companies that work in the area as well as know what these people most likely could be coping with. In contrast to additional cities within the City Vancouver area, large construction businesses didn't buy large tracks of property and develop patterned suv cul-de-sacs. They do can be found but to some smaller diploma compared to additional metropolitan areas. As a result you can find in a single road 20 homes all built differently. I suppose because of the land landscape it was the only way to get houses built-in some areas.

There was definitely a growth throughout the 70's through the shear quantity of shiplap patio's available. The majority of roofs in West Vancouver that need an upgraded are asphalt rooftops that take a seat on a shiplap deck. They shingle is generally the interlock shingle which was designed for shiplap but no longer obtainable in the Greater Vancouver area. The majority of property owners in West Vancouver are understanding they right now require a plyboard deck to cover the actual shiplap.

New Cedar Roof by Stephen Rees

A few Cedar rooftops appear in West Vancouver although not a lot that requires changing. The majority of twenty years old cedar tremble rooftops in West Vancouver happen to be changed so you find a cedar roof here and there. Changing cedar with cedar is not the all in order to common practise and many Cedar rooftops are in brand new building.

West Vancouver Roofing

Vancouver specials aren't all in order to common within West Vancouver. Flashlight upon and tar residue as well as tiny rocks can be obtained although not recommended. The actual rain as well as blowing wind tends to be a little more severe in West Vancouver, with the large quantities associated with trees and also the possibility of huge snowfall drop metal is a high suggestion.

Getting a roof estimate within West Vancouver can be quite different than the individual living right next door. for those who have a high driveway, have a roof that is higher compared to Thirty levels and also over Two thousand square feet compared to you can spend more than $ 3000 than your neighbour. The kind of roofing and quantity of pulsating can produce a huge difference. Within West Vancouver it is very tough to ball recreation area a cost with this really reason. I guess you can state based on the small property you live upon and the design from the roof could make a big difference between a higher estimation along with a low estimate. Roof entry is a huge problem with a few roofing contractors having to hand carry the old roofing over 100 feet than hands carrying the brand new roofing a hundred ft to the home.

Get 3 estimates to compare celery with apples and for the exact same product, provides you with the ability to educate yourself and get the right concerns. The majority of roofs within West Vancouver is under ventilated therefore make sure when you get your homes roof estimation you can observe in the event that each and every estimate you get may upgrade your air flow or even your brand-new roof will not last. The extra ventilation is not the add-on cost so the much more the merrier, you can't possess a restrict on ventilation. Tree particles is really a issue therefore keep your roof without damaging the roof item. drip blower has become the greatest type of upkeep.
